A wireless driver is essential if you want your wireless network card to function properly. However, there are situations where your Internet doesn’t deliver the best performance, so you must turn to some practical measures in order to solve the problem.

The first thing that you need to do when you are trying to fix your Internet problem is to reinstall your wireless driver. In order to do so you must start by finding the device manager. In Windows 7 you must enter the Start Menu, right click on the Computer option and then click Properties. Furthermore, you have to click Device Manager in the displayed panel and select the Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter option because that way the computer will forget about having a wireless card and it will re-install the wireless driver when a wireless card is introduced.

After opting for the Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter, you must right click on the Uninstall button and a small box will appear and it will ask you to confirm the device uninstall. Therefore, you must click OK and see it disappear from the list. The next step is to click the Action menu that you can find at the top of the Device Manager and choose the Scan for hardware changes. That way your computer will search and find the wireless card and Windows will start the process of installing drivers.

Installing drivers on Surface Pro or Surface Pro 2 is also an easy task because all you have to do is follow these simple steps to install wireless network card drivers. The first action that you need to do involves downloading the drivers. Therefore, you must operate on another PC by going to the Microsoft Download Center page for your Surface. Select the Download option and save the file on your desktop.

Next, you need to introduce a USB drive into your PC and drag the .zip file from your desktop into the USB drive folder. Here is what you need to do to extract the downloaded package onto your Surface desktop:

  • you must insert the USB drive into the USB port on your Surface and click the Desktop option on the Start screen;
  • in the taskbar, click the File Explorer and open your USB drive from the left side;
  • drag the archive onto your desktop and right click on the .zip file;
  • tap Extract All and consider the desktop as the save location;
  • click Extract.

Although the whole driver package is on your Surface, you can install only the wireless driver. You can start that by opening the Marvell folder from your Surface desktop and also opening the 20130311_Release_R93_Signed folder, and the wlan folder. After entering the win8 and the x64 folder, you must tap View and the File Name Extensions check box.

In order to finish this process, you must right click on the INF file mwlu97w8x64.inf and on the Install option. The last things that you need to do is click OK, restart your Surface and install the available updates after the operation is finished.
