The Main Branches of Science

The most important branches of science are natural sciences, social sciences and formal sciences. These are the fundamental sciences which include many other specialized domains. The applied sciences such as medicine and engineering are also compulsory disciplines that are used in many fields.

All branches of sciences are interdependent, and they work together in order to discover new technologies. The natural science studies the universe by observing the basic forces and rules that make our world function. It has many forms, but the most important ones are the followings:
• Physics is a form of science that studies the way that matter moves through spacetime;
• Chemistry studies the way that matter changes under specific circumstances, and the properties and structure that it features;
• Biology is a branch of science that analyzes the characteristics of living organisms.

The social sciences study society and everything that human relationships include, such as:
• communication;
• education;
• political science;
• anthropology;
• business administration;
• international relations;
• law;
• psychology;
• economics;
• Government.

The formal sciences study every discipline which doesn’t include abstract or partial notions. These branches of science involve working with exact numbers and values, and they are based on rules and definitions. Here are the branches of this domain:
• Logic teaches people how to make informed decisions by studying the principles of correct reasoning. It focuses on the forms that certain arguments might take, and on establishing the validity of those forms. The argumentation theory is based on logic and on the inference that it provides.
• Mathematics is the formal science that involves an objective. The difference between this form of science and the natural and social sciences is that mathematics uses knowledge as a method of verifying the results of its systematic study.
• Statistics is the study of collection, analysis and interpretation of information. It uses all the data to make prognostics and to establish certain progresses and evolutions.

The applied science transfers all the scientific knowledge into a physical environment in order to accomplish certain tasks that are required in applied mathematics, applied physics and computer science. Science represents the most important source of knowledge that physicians use to establish diagnoses, to treat patients and to prevent diseases, so it has a great use in medicine.
