Prayer wheels are a popular and colourful sight in the monasteries and gompas of Buddhist Nepal, Tibet and India. Engraved in Sanskrit, people spin the wheels (always clockwise) to send out their prayers or mantras and are apparently the equivalent of speaking the mantras.
