Web 2.0

The CSS, Ajax and Web 2.0 Technologies

CSS, Ajax and Web 2.0 technologies bring a great improvement to the way that sites look and function. They affect the usability and the design of the web pages in a positive way, and they represent advanced tools that are meant to help people have easier access to information and data. Therefore, they are considered to be a step forward for the Internet and all the aspects that it involves.

CSS, Ajax and Web 2.0 technologies represent tools that users can opt for in order to collaborate and communicate with each other. Originally, users could simply view the data that existed on Web sites, but thanks to these new discoveries they are now able to complete the content of certain sites and exchange information to obtain better results. So, with the help of CSS, Ajax and Web 2.0 technologies, passive users who used to simply view a content are now active and very productive.

CSS is short for Cascading Style Sheets, and it is used to define the presentation of a document that has been written in a markup language. It represents a style sheet language, and one of its most common applications involves styling web pages written in XHTML and HTML. Furthermore, it can style XML documents such as SVG and XUL. However, those who opt for this technology, mostly use it to control font styles and attributes. Page elements can also be controlled by establishing the position of certain elements without bulky tables.

Ajax, which is also know as Asynchronous JavaScript and XML represents one of the web development strategies that is used to create interactive web applications. It has the purpose to develop more responsive web pages by exchanging certain amounts of information with the server. That way, the web page doesn’t involve a reload each time that the user makes a change. Ajax uses CSS and HTML for presentation, but that doesn’t imply that it is a programming language, so it can’t be installed or downloaded.

Web 2.0 is an expression coined in 2004 by O’Reilly Media, and it refers to an advanced generation of services that are based on the Internet. It includes social networking sites, communication tools, wikis, and folksonomies that are meant to emphasize online sharing and collaboration between users. That way it manages to add extra value by turning a static site into a dynamic one. The best part about it is that it features an inquiry form which delivers instant messages.
